The Future of Housing Complex Project

UR stands for Urban Renaissance Agency, an independent administrative agency whose mission is to improve and service housing environment for the public. The Future of DANCHI is the project directed by UR, Kengo Kuma, and Kashiwa Sato to revive DANCHI for the next generation.
Danchi, or a big apartment complex, was a measure taken by the government that would provide families with housing at the time of high economic growth. Given the transition of the time, the project (called The Future of DANCHI) aims to revive those complexes in Japan as relaxed sites for communities that can suit the age of rapid-aging and declining birthrate.

高度成長期の日本を支えた、政府による集合住宅「団地」(DANCHI) を、少子高齢化社会、低成長社会に適合した「ゆるく、やさしい」コミュニティーとして再生させるプロジェクト。「団地」のオーナーであるUR (旧・住宅公園) が中心となり、プロジェクト･ディレクター佐藤可士和、ディレクター･アーキテクト隈研吾が中心となったオープンフラットフォーム型、参加型プロジェクトとして、2015年3月よりスタートした。
横浜市の洋光台団地が、まずモデルプロジェクトとしてスタートするが、全国に広がる莫大なストック（75万戸、1700団地）を将来のターゲットとして日本社会自体の再生をめざす。
