This hands-on museum shows visitors the process of making Kutani porcelain, allowing them to learn and experience first-hand one of the most famous types of porcelain in Japan.
This location was originally known as one of the few production centers in Japan of clay that is made by crushing the rocks mined from the nearby Hanasaka mountains. This museum is able to show the depth of craftsmanship in Japan by carrying on the functions of clay- making and combining them with the functions of a museum. The building is connected by a multi-function roof like it is a landform, the interior and exterior walls were made using the Hanasaka clay from this area, carbon fiber was utilized to reproduce wall substrates with traditional tea-ceremony room construction methods in a contemporary manner, and earthquake resistant walls were designed so that they are transparent and match the clay walls.

工房・ミュージアム

日本を代表する焼き物、九谷焼を作るプロセスを見せ、学び、体験することのできる体験型ミュージアム。
そもそもこの場所のは、近くの花坂の山から取れた岩を砕いて年度を作る日本でも数少ない製土施設があった。その製土の機能を引き継ぎ、ミュージアム機能と合体させることで、日本のものづくりの深さを見せることのできるミュージアムができた。複合機能を一つの屋根によって地形のように繋ぎ、ここで作られる花坂陶土で内外の外壁を作り、カーボンファイバーを用いて伝統的な茶室の工法の下地壁を現代に再生し、透明性があり土壁とマッチする耐震壁をデザインした。
