The Eiko Gakuen school is an open and flexible wooden structure school, which utilizes an innovative wooden structural system combining standard distributed lumber and a gerber beam structure. The gerber beam structure is also used for the connecting bridge, achieving a span over 9 meters.
To accommodate the modern issue of declining number of students, classrooms are designed with operable partitions, allowing classrooms to open up freely and shift uses flexibly as times change.
Located on the top a green hill in Ofuna, Eiko Gakuen is the Alma Mater of Kengo Kengo, responsible for the current renovation. In his time, the academy was a 3-story bare concrete building. Now, Eiko Gakuen is host to a refreshing wooden structure with a large void through the center inviting guests to pass through, and further connecting it with the surrounding nature.
