概要
学びの場、育ちの場と聞いて、どんな場所を思い浮かべるでしょうか。幼稚園、小・中学校、高等学校、大学、図書館、美術館…。戦後の民主化とともに日本の教育施設と生涯学習施設は大きく発展を遂げてきました。近年は、少子高齢化、都市への人口集中、グローバル社会、ワークライフバランス推進、授業時数の変更などといった社会の変化が、廃校の利活用、地域資源の活用、主体的な学習、社会人の学び直しやボランティア活動、ミュージアムの役割の充実など、教育や生涯学習のニーズに変化をもたらし、建築空間もそれらに合わせて多様化してきたと言えます。
　本展では、教育施設、生涯学習施設だけでなく、それらの枠にとどまらない福祉施設、体験型学習施設、アフタースクール、オルタナティブアートスペースなども含め、誰もが好奇心をもって訪れることが期待される、学びや育ちを生む建築作品をご紹介します。

International Christian University is known for its beautiful campus full of green. We designed in their forest a gentle gymnasium made of wood.

We realized a form as if a delicately curved roof of wood has landed on the ground in the forest. Inside the gymnasium are provided with multiple spaces for difference purposes, including an arena, swimming pool and the entrance area. We adopted the best system of wood structure for each space to emphasize its feature and efficiency.

For the arena, we applied the arch structure with widely distributed timber in 240×360 and secured enough height for the ceiling. For the swimming pool, we also used the standard wood material to realize for another arch system and controlled the height to the ceiling. The entrance hall is in the folded-plate structure of LVL and expresses a sequence to the cantilevered roof thrusting over the entrance. The LVL structurer is supported by the pillars of CLT.

As for the gaps between the roofs covering those different structural systems and sections, we treated them as the opening for lighting and ventilation. Because of this, the entire interior of the gymnasium became bright and pleasant.

By trying different structures for one building, we became convinced of the use of wood as a material, which offers great flexibility and potentials.

緑の豊かさで知られるICUキャンパスの森の中に、木でできた優しく柔らかな体育館をデザインした。

森の中に、ミニマルなカーブする木の屋根が舞い降りたような形状を表現しながら、内部には用途ごと―アリーナ棟、プール棟、エントランス棟―の要請に応じた多様な空間を用意し、それぞれの空間の性能とキャラクターを表現するための最適な木造システムを採用した。

アリーナ棟は240×360の流通材によるアーチ構造を採用して、天井高を確保した。プール棟はライズを抑えるために、同じく流通材を用いた樹状アーチ構造とした。エントランス棟はLVLによる折板構造にして、エントランスキャノピーの片持ち屋根との連続性を確保した。LVL折板は、CLTの柱によって支えられる。

異なる構造システムと断面形状を持つ屋根と屋根の隙間を、採光と換気のための開口として利用し、明るく快適な室内環境が実現した。

木という物質には多様な構造システムを可能にする、フレキシビリティと寛容性が内蔵されていることを、改めて確認した。

We created a temporary mobile theater inside a property of Jochiji, Zen temple in Kitakamakura.
Basic idea of the structure is based on Nangchang-Nangchang(2013); bamboos cut out from a forest nearby the site were shredded into strips and bent to form a curved surface.

モバイルシアター

北鎌倉の禅寺、浄智寺の一角に設置した期間限定のモバイルシアター。
Nangchang-Nangchang(2013)の方法を延長させて、境内の竹林から切り出した割竹をたわませて防水性能をもった曲面を作った。
防水性能を付加すると、突然難易度が何倍にも増すので、防水層を竹で挟み込むなど、様々な工夫を加えた。

We designed a factory / café for doughnuts located in the Shin Kyogoku arcade in central Kyoto, where you can closely watch the process of doughnut-making and eat them on site at the same time. The shop is based on a “wa” theme, which means Japanese spirit, and reflects the concept of “local consumption of locally produced goods” in the entire space. We extensively used bamboo from Arashi-yama to create a gentle “cave of bamboo” which has a soothing effect. For the application of the bamboo, we collaborated with Takesada Shoten (which specializes in bamboo work) and crafted 572 bamboo baskets made using traditional hexagonal weaving. We then attached the baskets to the base surface with specially invented flexible joints to realize a cave of bamboo that appears as random and natural as a real cave.

京都を代表するアーケード、新京極通りに沿って建つ、「和」をテーマにした体験型のドーナツファクトリー。
「地産地消」の考え方を空間にも展開し、京都嵐山の竹を用いて、柔らかで、心を癒す「竹の洞窟」を創造した。
京都の竹細工師「竹定商店」とコラボし、伝統的な六つ目編みの技術で作った竹籠572個を、特別に開発したフレキシブルジョイントで、下地に取り付けることで、自然の洞窟のようなランダムネスを持つ「竹の洞窟」が出来上がった。

We converted Kenzo Takada’s former residence in Paris into a house and a restaurant for its new owner, a French entrepreneur.

Kenzo succeeded in creating a unique world in the heart of Paris by designing a beautiful Japanese garden with a stone-studded pond containing nishiki carp. We therefore performed planning centered around this pond. We reorganized the house and made all the rooms as transparent as possible so that the garden could be viewed from every corner of the house. In addition, we changed the entire texture of the house to provide more warmth and softness by applying wood and clay as the materials. We finished the claywork with the assistance of plasterers called ES in Paris.

Kenzo also used to have a swimming pool facing the courtyard, which signified his passion for the tropics. Given the climate of Paris, we changed it into an engawa (veranda which is in between space) made with wood and lattices.

ファッションデザイナー高田賢三のパリの自邸を、フランス人の企業家のための住宅+レストランへと改造した。
KENZOは錦鯉が泳ぐ池の中に飛び石を打った美しい日本庭園を作ることでパリの中に別世界をつくりあげた。われわれはこの庭を中心として、あらゆる空間から庭が見られるように空間を透明化して再編成した。木と土を用いて家全体のテクスチャーをよりやわらかく暖かいものへと作り変え、土壁はパリ在住の左官職人ESの力を借りた。
KENZOが中庭に面して作ったプールは彼の熱帯へのパッションの象徴であったが、われわれはパリの気候を考慮して、このプールを木と格子でできたEngawa空間(In between space)へと転換した。

Commissioned by a university professor for his laboratory, we designed a shelf made of elm tree, getting a clue from the pattern of a honeycomb. Having analyzed its geometry, we invented a method originally to interlock each panel. Wood shelves tend to be monotonous, but we were able to provide a dynamic rhythm with this elm shelf using this fit system.

We designed an office building along the zelkova trees on Dogenzaka hill in Shibuya that has a skin that looks like bark so that it blends in with the trees.

This “bark” was created by carefully printing wood grain onto thin aluminum panels, bending the “bark” panels and fitting them together to produce a unique façade for the building that has shadows and rhythm while retaining uniformity.

In addition, the various sizes of holes in the “bark” allow sunlight to filter into each floor. This was the result of our taking on the challenge of bringing nature into office space and creating human space.

渋谷道玄坂のけやき並木沿いに、樹木と呼応する樹皮のようなスキンを纏ったオフィスビルをデザインした。

樹皮は木目を忠実に印刷で施した薄いアルミパネルで作られ、様々な大きさの樹皮を折り曲げ、めくり上げることで、均質になりがちなオフィスビルのファサードに独特の陰影とリズムを生み出した。

また樹皮の隙間に設けた様々なサイズの開口部からは、木漏れ日のような光が、フロアに射し込む。オフィス空間の中に、どのように自然を持ち込み、どのようにヒューマンなスペースを創造するかに挑戦した。

We designed a “street-style” library with a focus on making it open to the city and its people. There are a number of sections along the “street-like” corridor in the center of the building that blend in with the dwellings in the city. This represented an attempt to connect the “street” in the library with the streets in the city of Moriyama.

The walls along the “street” are covered with panels made from cedar grown in this prefecture, making it feel like taking a walk in the woods where sunlight filters down from above, and you encounter books and people in the perfect place to learn new things.

地域に開かれ、市民に開かれたストリート型の図書館をデザインした。中心となる室内化したストリートのまわりに、街と調和する家のような小さなボリュームを並べた。守山の街のストリートが、図書館の中のストリートへと連続し、図書館が街の生活の一部となることを試みた。

このストリートは県産である杉材で覆われ、森の中を散策するように本や人と出会い、木もれ日の中で学ぶことができる。

URO-CO is a plywood pavilion located inside LIPS(Living Image Presentation Space) of Haseko Corporation. It is designed and constructed by Kuma laboratory and Obuchi laboratory from the University of Tokyo and Haseko Corporation.

We attempted to achieve flexibility in the plywood material created by laser cutting perforations at the same time enough structural strength to serve as a bench. From this exploration the pavilion became something in between architecture and furniture.

We figured out the ideal proportions and sizes of diamond-shaped perforations to achieve the ideal flexibility and rigidity by using Grasshopper. Structural design was done by Jun Sato, associate professor at the University of Tokyo. The name of the pavilion “URO-CO”, a Japanese word for fish scale comes from its perforation patterns resembling scales and its overall shape to fish.

東京大学隈研究室、小渕研究室、長谷工コーポレーションがコラボして、長谷工の新しいプレゼンテーションスペースLIPSのために、木の合板を使って、パビリオンを作った。

合板にレーザーカッターで切込みを入れることで生まれる柔軟性に着目し、しかも座れる強度を有する、パビリオンと家具の中間的な存在をデザインした。

その最も適切な柔軟性を確保するために、ひし型の孔の形状、寸法をグラスホッパーとモックアップを使ってスタディを繰り返し、この厚みとパターンに到達した。構造計画は同じく東京大学の佐藤淳准教授が担当した。ウロコはひし型の孔が魚のウロコに似ているからでもあり、また全体の形状が魚のようであることにもよる。

This project consisted of the rejuvenation of a Shoyu factory with a 200-history. The white Namako wall that is created with an advanced plastering technique was restored, and a three dimensional logo mark was added to the outer wall by a craftsman who specializes in creating art with a trowel.
A kitchen atelier and café were added to the storehouse building which has been used up until now to make Shoyu, regenerating the entire storehouse into a museum that tells the story of the culture of Shoyu in Kumamoto.
The round beams beneath the roof on the inside were exposed to show them off, as well as the bamboo lath that is the base for the old earthen wall as part of our attempt to visualize the passing of time through the ages.

２００年の歴史を持つ、醤油蔵の再生。高度な左官のテクニックによって可能となったナマコ壁と呼ばれるディテールの白壁を復元し、さらに鏝絵師仁五さんの手を借りて、新しい立体的なロゴマークを、しっくいを用いて、外壁につけ加えた。
蔵には、従来の醤油製造の機能にキッチンアトリエ、カフェの機能を付加し、蔵全体を熊本の醤油という文化を伝えるミュージアムとして、再生させた。
インテリアでは、屋根裏の丸太を組んだ骨組みを見せ、古い土壁の下地である竹小舞を露出し、時代が積層する様子を、可視化しようと試みた。

We worked on a project of preserving and renovating Tokyo’s Central Post Office, designed by Tetsuro Yoshida (completed in 1933) into a commercial facility. Given the unusual shape of the site, Yoshida used many octagonal pillars imparting a subtle atmosphere to the rigid-frame (rahmen) RC structure.

KKAA’s design reinterprets Yoshida’s octagon, creating a “pillar of light” from metal chains. We also developed glass elements within the building, including handrails, on which a pattern of thin lines is printed, adding delicacy of the line to the modernism of Yoshida.

日本のモダニズムのパイオニア、吉田鉄郎設計による、東京中央郵便局を保存し、増築し、商業施設へとリノベーションするプロジェクトのデザインを担当した。吉田鉄郎は、特殊な形状の敷地に対応すべく、八角形の断面の柱を多用し、RC造のラーメン構造に、繊細な線の表情を与えることに成功した。
われわれのデザインもまた、八角形の柱の形状をトレースしたメタルチェーンの「光の柱」、細い線のパターンをガラスにプリントした手摺等を用いて、モダニズムに対し、線の繊細を追加した。

As the catalyst of the industry, Starbucks has introduced a new style of café culture to urban communities. The Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Nakameguro is their new model of business, which follows the stores in Seattle, Shanghai, Milan and New York.
The Roastery Tokyo is structured as a spiral centering around the “cask,” the giant silo for coffee beans stretching as high as 17m from the bottom. With this new building, we aimed to enliven the whole activity in its neighborhood.
In line with the streets forming a triangle, a couple of new functions, such as a bakery, bar, tea corner in addition to the café area were brought in to diversify the activities on the streets.
We also designed an engawa-typed terrace on the upper floor to secure continuity from the town. Customers at the Roastery can enjoy the view of the Meguro River and the cherry trees here as well as their coffees.
The eaves for the terrace are layered and finished as Yamato-bari clad with cedar wood (staggered arrangement of the panels), to remind us of Japan’s traditional five-story pagoda and propose a modern version of greenery, or bonsai, instead of following a typical urban building with vertical walls.
At the northern side of the building, we placed planters as a buffer between the roaster and the adjacent apartment house.
The boxes of aluminum are supported by the 16.3mm-diameter wire rope and feed-water pipe is combined with drainpipe, as we wanted the planters to play the central role on the façade.
In its attempt to use the gutter this way, the roaster should belong to the same family of Katsura Villa in Kyoto and many other traditional Japanese architecture.

新しいカフェ文化を都市にもたらしたスターバックスによる、新業態、スターバックス リザーブ ロータリーの東京店。シアトル、上海、ミラノ、ニューヨークに次ぐ5つ目の店舗となる。
キャスクと呼ばれる高さ１７ｍの巨大なコーヒー豆の貯蔵庫を中心に置いたスパイラル状の構成で、コンクリートのアクティビティの立体化を試みた。この3次元の街路に沿って、ベーカリー、カクテルパーティショップなどの、従来のスターバックスとは異なる機能がはりつき、街路の多様性の立体化が実現した。
都市との連続性を獲得するために、上階にも縁側状のテラスを設け、目の前の目黒川と桜並木を眺めながら、コーヒーを楽しむことができるようにした。重層するテラスの軒を杉板による大和貼りで仕上げ、五重塔のように、木で作られた軒を重層させることで、垂直な壁で構成された従来の都市建築に代わる、陰影豊かな新しい現代の盆栽、都市建築の原型を提案しようと試みた。
西側の縁側には、隣接する集合住宅とのバッファーとして、立体的なプラントボックスを挿入した。直径16.3mmのワイヤーでアルミ製のプラントボックスを支え、給水、排水のパイプを一体化することで、従来は脇役でしかなかったプラントボックスを、ファサードの主役としてデザインした。その意味で雨樋をファサードの主役とした、桂離宮をはじめとする日本の伝統建築にもつながる試みである。
