This multi-purpose pavilion is situated in the garden belonging to The ONE Nanyuan, a small hotel that proposes a fresh, nature-oriented lifestyle in Taiwan.
We first made an organic-shaped framework of Hinoki (cypress), and covered it from above with transparent ETFE membrane, minimizing the use of metallic tools. In the pavilion you would feel as though you were surrounded by a forest of cypress trees.
In order to generate a form as though the ground had raised slowly on its own, the wooden units were joined in all different angles. It is basically an arch structure, but since we wanted to create an ambiguous and loosened body like randomly assembled tree branches, the units are joined and extended with their edges staggered and offset. The shifting points of contact worked well to allow slight movement of the units. As the result, a gentle and flexible structural system was realized that absorbs and deflects forces at the same time.

人にやさしく、自然にやさしい台湾の新しい生活文化の創造を目的とする、森の中の小ホテル「The one 南国」の庭にたてられた
多目的パビリオン。
木(ヒノキで)オルガニックな形態をもつ骨組みを作り、その上に極力金属を用いずにＥＴＦＥの透明な膜をかぶせることで、ヒノキの森の中にいるような、空間体験を作り出すことができた。
地面がゆっくりと隆起してパビリオンになったような形態を生成するため、木のユニット同士はすべて異なる角度でジョイントされた。
基本的にはアーチ構造によって支えられているが、小さな粒子が木の枝のように無駄に集合して、曖昧でゆるい全体を生成しているような空間感覚を創造するため、ユニット同士をすべて少しずらしながら接合していった。この接点をずらしたジョイントの方法は、ユニットの小さな動きを許容するためにも効果的であり結果として力を吸収して逃がす「やわらかな」構造システムができあがった。
